Working with parents

Working with parents

Parents play a critical role in supporting a young person's sporting experience. Sport NZ is working with its partners to create positive sporting experiences for young people by educating and supporting one of the key adult influencers in youth sport - parents.

Our national approach to parents

Through better parental support, we believe young people will have a more positive experience in sport. Our approach focuses on supporting partners in a variety of ways.

Good Sports raises adults’ awareness about their behaviours in children’s’ sport, and if necessary, promote a positive shift in that behaviour.

Why are we focusing on parents?

Parents are a significant part of the sport system that Sport NZ has not targeted in previous strategies. They are a significant influencer and enabler of a quality experience for children and young people in sport.
