Jaycee Outward Bound Scholarships
History of award
Jaycee was an organisation for men, and in later years women, between the ages of 18 and 40. Its Four Square Badge symbolised the four tenets of the organisation - Fellowship, Action, Service and Education.
When Ashburton Jaycees wound up in 2008 they established a Special Named Fund with Advance Ashburton Community Foundation, to be used "for the development and education of persons who reside within the Ashburton District who are aged between 18 and 40".
A portion of the income from this fund is being used to support the Outward Bound Scholarships.
Purpose
With the support of the Ashburton Jaycee Education and Development Fund, Advance Ashburton offer an opportunity for young people to challenge and develop themselves by offering scholarships to help towards the costs of attending an Outward Bound Course. This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals wishing to reach their full potential through challenge and adventure in the outdoors. The value of the scholarship is $2,000 towards an Outward Bound course of the applicant’s choice.
