Change in research funding allocation

Sport NZ is changing the way it allocates a portion of its research budget.  The Research Grants Programme (RGP) has been put on hold and we will instead channel this funding through a wider contestable commissioned research approach.
 
Research remains a cornerstone of Sport NZ’s strategic decision-making. Making this change allows us to commission larger, more strategically focused research topics, both for Sport NZ and on behalf of the sport and recreation sector.
 
This decision is also consistent with the responsibilities of a publicly funded organisation to constantly seek the most effective and efficient outcomes possible from its resources.
 
The research community has been advised directly of this change.
