Hawke's Bay Elite Sports Person Scholarships

History of award


The Scholarship is provided by the following:
* EIT Hawke's Bay. * Sport Hawke's Bay. * Hastings District Council.

Purpose


The Hawke's Bay Elite Sports Person Scholarships have been developed with major sporting codes to establish a programme to encourage top sports people to stay in Hawke's Bay. Applicants must be nominated by their sport code.

Eligibility


Any sports code can nominate a student/s each year.
Applicants must:
* be financially supported by their sports code and have completed the HB Elite Sports Person Scholarship form.
* be intending to undertake their first year of tertiary study in an EIT Hawke's Bay programme.
* meet the entry criteria of their intended programme of study.
* have the ability to contribute as a role model to a maximum of six promotional events each year. This may include public speaking, attendance at functions and promotional events.

Number of awards


Up to seven each year.

Value


$2,500 each per annum towards fees.

Tenure


Two years, payment for the second year of study will be reviewed annually and is subject to funding. Should the student's study programme extend longer than two years, any subsequent scholsrhip funding will be considered on a case by case basis.

How do students apply?


Application forms available from the Scholarships Officer. These should be sent to Sport Hawke's Bay and should have 'Application for Hawke's Bay Elite Sports Person Scholarship' and 'Confidential' marked on the envelope.
Applications can be made from the 1 August in the year prior to that in which the award is made. This is recommended as there are a limited number of scholarships available.
Applications close 15 December each year. Late applications will be accepted up to 31 January provided places are still available.

Decision makers


The granting of the scholarship will be assessed by a panel comprising:
* EIT Hawke's Bay representative.
* Sport Hawke's Bay representative.
* Hastings District Council representative.
