National monitoring surveys

Credit: Mark Dwyer Credit: Mark Dwyer Sport NZ collects national survey data on sport, recreation and physical activity.

  • Sport NZ's 2013/14 Active NZ Survey starts in April 2013 and will finish in March 2014. Results will follow later in 2014. Learn more
  • 2007/08 Active New Zealand Survey - Results are now available from the Active NZ survey conducted in 2007/08. This is the most recent national data on sport and recreation participation by New Zealand adults (aged 16 and over).
  • 1997-2001 New Zealand Sport and Recreation Surveys - Before the Active NZ survey, the Hillary Commission commissioned three national sport and physical activity surveys between 1997 and 2000. The findings from these three surveys were published by Sport NZ in 2003. The overview report is available on the Active NZ survey website.

Accessing New Zealand Sport and Recreation research

Credit: John Borren BOP Times Credit: John Borren BOP Times In partnership with the Ministry of Health, we have funded a Knowledge Library of New Zealand research, projects and funders, including sport, recreation, physical activity and exercise science.

The Knowledge Library is updated regularly and includes research from 2000 onwards.

A number of academic research papers co-authored by Sport NZ researchers are included in the Knowledge Library (on topics such as Push Play, the Obstacles to Action study, and the international physical activity prevalence study).

You can contact Sport NZ's Research Team (info@sportnz.org.nz.)
